Apple announced that more than 100,000 apps have been adapted to iPhone Duo, and the folding screen ecosystem is accelerating its maturity

Abstract:

Apple announced that since the launch of the foldable screen phone iPhone Duo, developers have rapidly advanced application adaptation work. Currently, more than 100,000 apps in the App Store have been optimized for iPhone Duo, and thousands of new apps are added every day.

It has been about two weeks since iPhone Duo was officially shipped, and the application ecosystem has always been regarded as one of the focuses of attention from the outside world. As Apple's first foldable screen phone, the device adopts a dual-screen design inside and outside. Therefore, whether applications can make full use of the new screen form is considered to directly affect the user experience.

Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of global developer relations, said that developers' response to iPhone Duo far exceeded expectations. She said that Apple is very happy to see developers actively embracing this new product form and appreciates their innovative capabilities. There are currently more than 100,000 apps specifically built for iPhone Duo on the App Store, and a large number of new apps are optimized and updated every day.

Apple lists a number of representative applications that have recently been adapted, including Microsoft's Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint, as well as well-known applications such as Zoom, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Goodnotes, Fantastical, Flighty, Etsy, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL and SmartGym. Apps that have been optimized for iPhone Duo will also display the "Made for iPhone Duo" exclusive logo on the App Store page on the device to facilitate user identification.

In order to promote development progress, Apple has held more than 50 offline developer events in 19 cities around the world in the past month, attracting more than 2,000 developers to participate. Developers can personally experience the iPhone Duo hardware and learn how to design and optimize application interfaces for the folding screen form.

Apple said that applications developed using standard SwiftUI and UIKit components can automatically adapt to the internal and external screen display environment. At the same time, the company also provides a new development interface that allows developers to create exclusive layouts for different folding angles, hinge postures, and multiple display modes, thereby further leveraging the advantages of folding screen devices.

For older versions of applications that have not yet been optimized, the system can still run normally, but the user experience will be affected to a certain extent. Although these applications can be launched on iPhone Duo, they cannot make full use of the large internal screen space and often cannot achieve the best display effect in the expanded state.

Although the number of 100,000 apps seems very impressive, considering that the App Store has millions of apps, there is still a large amount of software that has not yet been adapted. Some applications that users frequently use have only recently been added to the support list. For example, Google Maps recently launched an optimized version for iPhone Duo.

Apple believes that the current development speed of the application ecosystem is still increasing. As more and more developers gain access to real-machine testing opportunities and complete updates, more applications will take full advantage of the iPhone Duo folding screen design in the next few months, allowing users to obtain a more mature and complete user experience.
