Abstract:
In the latest official update statement, Apple changed its previous position and announced that a new core camera feature that was previously exclusive to the latest devices will be transferred to more older iPhone models. In the new system released recently, Apple has launched a new algorithm optimization function for image shooting, and claimed that because this function relies on the latest neural network engine (Neural Engine) and advanced image signal processor (ISP) for real-time hardware acceleration, it can only be exclusive to the latest generation of flagship mobile phones.
This restriction has triggered strong dissatisfaction and protests from a large number of users of older models. Many users who purchased the previous generation or even the first two generations of Pro series flagship models pointed out that the chip computing power of their devices is fully sufficient to support the computing needs of this function. Apple's move is suspected of deliberately stimulating sales of new machines through software tailoring.

Faced with questioning pressure from the user community and technology media, the Apple team made concessions after re-evaluation. Apple clarified in the statement that the engineering team has successfully reduced the peak computing power requirements of the hardware for this shooting function by further streamlining and optimizing the algorithm model. In the upcoming system version update, more older devices, including the iPhone 17 Pro series and some standard edition models, will receive full support for this feature.
Industry observers pointed out that Apple has repeatedly been involved in controversy in the past for restricting the functions of older devices in new systems. Apple's rapid response to market feedback and withdrawal of its exclusivity decision shows that under the current background of prolonged smartphone replacement cycles and intensified competition in the consumer market, Apple is paying more attention to the ecological stickiness and brand reputation of old users. Restoring the functional experience of older models through subsequent software updates will help mitigate the risk of users losing their camp and maintain the stability of their software ecosystem.
