Abstract:
Data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research on Friday showed that Samsung Electronics’ Exynos application processors (APs) accounted for 9% of global smartphone AP shipments in the second quarter, which is the highest level since the agency first collected relevant data in 2024.
Counterpoint said this proportion increased by 2 percentage points from the previous quarter and 3 percentage points from the same period last year.
Application processors are often called the "brains" of mobile devices and are responsible for the core computing tasks required to run the operating system and applications.
This growth was mainly due to increased shipments of Exynos chips for high-end and mid-range smartphones.
The flagship Exynos 2600 chip powered by the Samsung Galaxy S26 series has driven growth in the high-end market, while the Exynos chips used in the Galaxy A57 and A37 have supported shipments in the mid-range market.
Data show that Taiwan’s MediaTek ranked first in the market with a 31% market share in the second quarter with its Dimensity and HiSilicon chipsets produced for a variety of smartphones.
Qualcomm of the United States produces Snapdragon chipsets and ranks second with a market share of 23%. The A-series chips used by Apple to design iPhones have a market share of 19%, ranking third.
