Abstract:

According to the latest news from the supply chain, Apple is promoting a new OLED panel manufacturing process, which is expected to bring brighter and better display screens to iPhone and iPad in the future. As Apple continues to promote the transformation of its entire product line to OLED display technology, the new generation of OLED panels may become an important upgrade direction of its display strategy.

Reports indicate that Apple has long planned to fully adopt OLED displays in its products. This goal is currently being gradually achieved, but the OLED panels used by Apple in the future may be significantly improved compared to existing products.

Sources revealed that Samsung Display and LG Display, two major partners in Apple's OLED supply chain, are jointly studying new OLED production solutions. As Apple's important display panel suppliers, both companies hope to enhance their competitiveness through advanced technology to win more orders from Apple.

According to industry sources, Apple is currently prioritizing the use of an existing manufacturing process called "sputtering" in display panels based on High Mobility Oxide (HMO) technology. In order to meet Apple's future needs, both Samsung Display and LG Display are developing new atomic layer deposition (ALD) technology and related sputtering processes, and plan to apply them to future mass production lines.

One of the biggest advantages brought by the new process is its ability to improve the luminous performance of individual pixels in OLED panels. After the pixel brightness is increased, the overall brightness of the display panel will also be enhanced. At the same time, higher luminous efficiency may also improve screen contrast, further improving the color performance and layering of the picture.

Although it has not yet been disclosed when this technology will be put into large-scale mass production, and it is not clear which product Apple will be the first to use related panels. However, as Samsung Display and LG Display simultaneously advance research and development work, the next generation of Apple OLED devices is expected to achieve new breakthroughs in display brightness and visual performance.
