Abstract:
Shortly after the first foldable screen phone iPhone Duo was launched, some users reported problems in the hinge area, causing cracks in the inner screen. Apple has now responded to the reports. In a statement to MacRumors, Apple said only a "very small number" of devices were affected, but did not specify what caused the cracking or whether it planned to roll out a fix.

Apple said in a statement: "Feedback from early users on iPhone Duo has been very positive, and we are seeing developers quickly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor, which is exciting. We are aware that a very small number of iPhone Duo devices have issues with the internal screen. If users encounter problems with the iPhone Duo screen, they should contact AppleCare for replacement service."
Judging from the current user feedback, the faults show a very high consistency. Many of the devices in question have cracks located in the same area on the lower half of the inner screen, with the crack running along the hinge. Users said that before damage occurs, there will be a "stuck" feeling at the fold of the screen, sometimes accompanied by a slight "pop" sound. This aura symptom indicates that the damage is not caused by an external force falling, but is more likely related to mechanical abnormalities in the hinge structure during repeated opening and closing.
Repair website iFixit disassembled the iPhone Duo and gave several possible reasons for hinge failure. The website pointed out that the fault location brings together multiple internal components. One possibility is that the central support bar inside the hinge that should be able to retract fails to retract normally, thus squeezing the flexible inner screen and eventually causing damage. This analysis also corroborates the "stuck feeling" and abnormal noise described by users.
In terms of after-sales processing, affected users can currently get complete machine replacements directly at Apple retail stores. However, due to limited stock, some users need to wait for a while to complete the replacement. For a new product that has just been launched, has a high starting price and is still in the ramp-up stage of production capacity, this situation may further lengthen the actual solution cycle for users.
As of press time, Apple has not announced the batch range and failure rate data of the affected devices, nor has it stated whether it will solve the problem through software updates or hardware revisions. For potential buyers, what you can pay attention to now is: if the internal screen has a stuck feeling, abnormal noise or minor cracks near the hinge, you should contact AppleCare as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
