Abstract:
The Fedora Project has submitted a change proposal to provide official, native support for the Crystal programming language in next year's Fedora 46 version, which is currently awaiting evaluation. Crystal is a statically typed, object-oriented compiled language designed for system-level execution scenarios. Its syntax is inspired by Ruby, while paying more attention to running speed, resource efficiency and type safety.

The goal of this Fedora 46 change proposal is to officially package the Crystal compiler, Shards dependency manager, automated specification generation tool cr2rpm, and the macro collection crystal-rpm-macros for RPM packaging in the Fedora Linux ecosystem.
The proposal believes that using the Crystal programming language in Fedora will help meet the needs of isolated network environments and high-security deployments, improve the integrity of the software supply chain, support centralized security audits, closed and reproducible build processes, and provide users with a modern system-level programming language.
