Abstract:
Microsoft's code hosting website GitHub has quietly banned the use of Microsoft's Outlook and Hotmail mailboxes to register new accounts. Already registered accounts can continue to be used, but if users plan to register a new account, they can only use other mailboxes. Mailboxes using Outlook and Hotmail suffixes will display that the mailbox cannot be verified.

GitHub registration also has relatively strict security checks, so some black and gray production teams will give priority to using Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail to register accounts, because these email brands have higher credibility. Usually, most platforms will not block emails such as Gmail, Outlook, and Hotmail. On the contrary, some custom domain name mailboxes are more likely to be blocked.
So if GitHub can ban both Outlook and Hotmail, it can only be said that the recent black and gray behavior has touched GitHub's bottom line. Although disabling these mailboxes will affect a large number of users, GitHub still chooses to prohibit the use of Outlook and Hotmail to register new accounts. There is currently no recovery time.
GitHub’s official statement is that it will continue to evaluate security:
GitHub has suspended new account registrations using both Outlook and Hotmail email addresses after discovering ongoing, coordinated fraud and abuse associated with these two email addresses. Existing accounts will not be affected. GitHub recommends using other supported email addresses to register. GitHub will continue to evaluate how to prevent abuse while providing secure access.
