"GTA6" will be unlocked at local midnight, and New Zealand players will be the first to enter the game

📅 2026-09-20

Abstract:

"GTA6" will be unlocked at 0:00 local time in each region on November 19th, rather than being open at the same time globally. Due to time zone differences, New Zealand players will be the first to enter the game.

When New Zealand enters midnight on November 19, it is still November 18 in the United States: 3 am Pacific time, 5 am Central time, and 6 am Eastern time. Therefore, the New Zealand region will open significantly earlier than markets such as the United States.

Xbox players may be able to unlock the game in local time in advance by changing the console region to New Zealand. However, this common cross-region method does not apply to PS5, which still needs to wait for the region to enter midnight on November 19.

Rockstar has not stated the reason for adopting partition unlocking. "GTA6" will only provide single-player content when it launches, and will not launch an online multiplayer mode at the same time. According to Take-Two's recent statement, online mode may not be added until 2027 at the earliest.

This work is also a brand new work in the series after 13 years. Rockstar's last major new game was "Red Dead Redemption 2" released in 2018. There was an eight-year gap between the two works.

"GTA6" will not release a physical version with a disc. Although the game will be sold in boxed products on store shelves, there will only be a digital redemption code inside the box. The game is still scheduled to be released on November 19th, and will be released one after another at midnight local time in each region.
