Abstract:
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force said on the 20th that part of the wreckage of a "Global Hawk" unmanned reconnaissance aircraft that lost contact in the waters near Tottori Prefecture had drifted to the shore and was recovered. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force disclosed that the piece of debris was about 1.5 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, but did not specify what kind of parts it was. The search is still continuing.
According to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the drone took off from Misawa Base at around 10:20 local time on the 15th and lost contact over the sea near Tottori Prefecture at around 13:00. Before the communication was interrupted, there was a situation where the signal was poor. The drone was not training at the time, but the Japan Air Self-Defense Force did not disclose its specific purpose. Later that day, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force speculated that the drone had crashed.
Including this drone, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force owns a total of three "Global Hawk" drones, all of which are deployed at Misawa Base.
