Abstract:
LG Display officially announced the launch of a 24.5-inch 720Hz gaming OLED panel and started mass production. This is not only the world's first OLED panel specifically designed for e-sports scenes, but also breaks the current refresh rate record in the field of gaming OLED displays, further promoting the in-depth penetration of OLED technology into the professional e-sports market.

In the field of professional e-sports, 24-inch monitors have long been regarded as the mainstream choice. This size allows players to capture the entire screen information at once without having to frequently turn their eyes, so it is widely used in various professional events and competitive training environments. LG Display chose the 24.5-inch specification this time because it was designed to meet the actual needs of professional gamers.
The biggest highlight of the new panel is its 720Hz refresh rate and 0.02 millisecond response time. 720Hz means that the screen can refresh the screen 720 times per second, and the refresh capability reaches the highest level among current game display devices. At the same time, the response speed of 0.02 milliseconds has become the top specification among current e-sports OLED products.
To achieve this performance target, LG Display developed a set of proprietary driving algorithms. The company said that in addition to improving the performance of the panel itself, it has also made overall optimization from multiple aspects such as panel structure design, drive system and control logic, so that the 720Hz refresh rate can operate stably at 1920×1080 full HD resolution.
In terms of actual gaming experience, ultra-high refresh rate and extremely low response time can significantly reduce motion blur and screen smearing, which is especially suitable for first-person shooter games, racing games, and other e-sports projects that require extremely high response speed. Players can more clearly see high-speed moving targets, such as the moment when the muzzle flash bursts, enemy characters moving quickly, or the trajectory of a racing car speeding on the track.
As one of the characteristics of OLED technology, the new panel adopts a pixel-level self-luminous design, eliminating the need for the backlight module that traditional LCD displays rely on. Each pixel can emit light independently, resulting in higher contrast, richer color performance, and greater immersion.
LG Display revealed that this 24.5-inch 720Hz panel has been first used in ASUS’ new gaming monitor ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace. This monitor has also been selected as the official e-sports monitor for the 2026 PGL CS2 Major Singapore event. The PGL CS2 Major is one of the highest-level events of the year for Counter-Strike 2 and one of the most watched e-sports competitions in the world.
With the official release of the new panel, LG Display hopes to further expand its influence in the e-sports display market. The company stated that it will continue to strengthen its market layout with a complete OLED product line from 20-inch to 40-inch, some of which also use its own Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology to meet the needs of different gaming scenarios.
At the same time, LG Display also plans to further introduce artificial intelligence technology into the display research and development process, and accelerate the development of next-generation e-sports display products through AI-assisted design and performance optimization.
Li Xianyu, head of LG Display's large-size display business, said that the company will continue to use technological innovation as its core competitiveness to promote the transformation of the e-sports display market to OLED and accelerate the development of OLED as a global mainstream display technology.
