Musk's super chip factory "empathizes" with TSMC? Intel CEO Chen Liwu responded

📅 2026-10-07

Abstract:

On October 7, according to Bloomberg, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said that the company will continue to cooperate with Elon Musk on the super chip factory project Terafab. Terafab is Musk's bold move into cutting-edge chip manufacturing.

Musk said earlier this week that he was in discussions with TSMC about cooperation with Terafab. This dampened investor confidence in Intel, which signed on as Terafab's development partner in April.

Chen Liwu told Bloomberg on Wednesday before attending an event in Tokyo to commemorate Intel's 50th anniversary of operations in Japan that Intel would continue to participate in the Terafab project.

The Terafab project is part of a wave of governments and companies around the world competing to expand production capacity of semiconductors and other key components. These products are critical to accelerating the popularity of AI.

Factories that make everything from ball bearings, chip-making equipment, industrial chemicals to slide rails are operating at full capacity, prompting companies to build more production lines.
