NVIDIA denies rumors of GeForce RTX 5090 discontinuation, saying flagship graphics card will continue to ship

Abstract:

In response to recent reports that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090 will be discontinued, Nvidia Senior Vice President Jeff Fisher denied it. He said that the flagship GeForce graphics card based on the Blackwell architecture has not been discontinued and the company will continue to supply the market; however, he also admitted that its supply chain and production capacity do have certain limitations. Relevant statements were reported by Taiwanese media 4Gamers, Central News Agency and Sanli News.

Previously, multiple media reported that Nvidia may have stopped the supply of RTX 5090 because the company plans to prioritize the GB202 chip for professional products such as the RTX PRO series. There are also rumors that the RTX 5080 24GB version will succeed the RTX 5090 and become the new flagship of the RTX 50 series. Nvidia has not previously responded publicly to these claims.

When Jeff Fisher attended the RTX Spark launch event in Taipei, he responded that although there are other derivatives of the chip used in the RTX 5090, the product has indeed not been discontinued, and Nvidia is making every effort to ensure product launch and continued shipments. He emphasized that the RTX 5090 is an extremely important core product for Nvidia, and the gaming and GeForce businesses are also of critical significance; he said that without this business, Nvidia would not exist today.

Although Nvidia denies the production suspension, the supply tightness at the market level is still obvious. According to reports, the price of RTX 5090 has exceeded US$5,000 in most regions, further exacerbating the shortage of supply. At the same time, major retailers such as Micro Center have removed the graphics card from their shelves, and the product has disappeared from Nvidia's official store, leaving the outside world still questioning its subsequent supply.

It is unclear whether Nvidia will resume more adequate supplies due to market reaction, or whether the supply constraints stem from chip capacity allocation, excessive demand or other supply chain issues. Jeff Fisher’s latest statement at least shows that the RTX 5090 has not entered the discontinuation stage, and Nvidia still regards it as an important flagship product in the GeForce product line.
