Abstract:
OpenAI recently sent a notice to users stating that with the integration of ChatGPT's "chat" and "work" functions, users using ChatGPT and Codex will share the same share in the next few weeks. According to the OpenAI Help Center, this change will begin in
December
Get started, available withPlus, Pro and Business plans
. Credit consumption depends on the model selected by the user and the tasks performed. Generally, more advanced models and more complex tasks will consume more credits.

This means that using ChatGPT to process tasks and using Codex to program will be deducted from the same quota, and users need to coordinate the usage of both. For users who frequently use ChatGPT and Codex at the same time, the usage of one function may affect the remaining balance of the other function.
However, OpenAI stated that users chatting in "instant" mode will not consume shared credits. The company said in the notice that users' current plans support unlimited use of "instant" mode.
OpenAI does not expect that for most users, this adjustment will not cause them to wait for quota resets more frequently. Users can then view the combined remaining balance and reset time in "Settings" → "Usage". If the quota is exhausted, you can wait for reset, upgrade the package, or purchase additional quota to continue using eligible functions.
In addition to the quota adjustment, OpenAI also plans to integrate the "Chat" and "Work" tabs in ChatGPT. Over the next few weeks, the company will first test the integrated experience with a small group of users before gradually expanding based on feedback.
According to OpenAI's introduction, after integration, users can discuss ideas in the same interface and let ChatGPT perform tasks, such as building websites, making presentations, or processing web pages by combining user-provided files and plug-ins. Users can still review and direct the work while the task is in progress.
OpenAI also stated that
Codex will still retain an independent user experience in the ChatGPT desktop application
.
