Abstract:
According to Reuters, OpenAI updated its Model Spec on Thursday. It's a public roadmap that lays out how the company wants its AI models to perform. As the capabilities of AI systems continue to increase, OpenAI has rebuilt this set of specifications around five core values. The five values are fidelity to human intent, minimization of harm, honesty and transparency, respect for human autonomy, and care.

OpenAI
OpenAI stated that loyalty to human intentions is the basis of this framework, requiring the model to understand the intentions and value orientations of users, developers and OpenAI, rather than simply executing instructions literally.
OpenAI said the update is part of its AI alignment efforts to help models apply human values in unfamiliar situations while always accepting human supervision. The revised framework says models should minimize harm, be transparent about what they know and don’t know, and help users make their own decisions and pursue their own goals.
The company stated that the current model does not yet fully reflect the requirements of the updated "Model Specification" and is exploring new training methods to help the model internalize these principles into its own behavior.
The move echoes rival Anthropic’s “constitutional AI” approach. The approach guides a model’s behavior through a written “constitution” of principles and makes the values that shape AI systems more transparent.
