Abstract:
Razer recently launched the Hello Kitty and Friends blind box keycap series in collaboration with Sanrio. Classic characters such as Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, My Melody and Kuromi are made into three-dimensional doll keycaps that can be directly installed on mechanical keyboards, bringing keyboard players and Sanrio fans a new accessory that is both decorative and collectible.
This series is sold in a blind box format, with a character keycap randomly placed in each package. Consumers cannot know the specific style before opening the box. The five common characters have an equal chance of appearing in the blind box, so each standard design theoretically has the same chance of obtaining it. Each keycap is made of multi-part PVC material, with fine pad printing details and semi-glossy surface treatment, giving the character figure a strong three-dimensional feel after being installed on the keyboard.
In addition to the five common designs, Razer has also added a rarer hidden version. This hidden version uses metallic mirror chrome plating, which is significantly different from the semi-glossy appearance of the regular version, making it more eye-catching overall. According to the information released by Razer, the chrome-plated hidden version will appear approximately once in every 24 blind boxes, so it is mainly aimed at players who want to collect special styles.
Consumers can either purchase a blind box individually or a complete set of six blind boxes. The six-box set guarantees five standard characters: Hello Kitty, Cinnamon Dog, Pudding Dog, Melody, and Coolomi. The sixth box usually contains one of the recurring characters, but there is also a chance to directly draw the rare chrome-plated hidden version. In other words, purchasing the entire set guarantees that you will collect all five common characters, but there is no guarantee that you will get the hidden characters. In addition to the keycaps, each blind box also comes with a corresponding character card, further increasing the collection attributes.
These keycaps are not simply decorations for display, but adopt a standard MX cross-axis mounting structure and can be installed on high-keycap mechanical keyboards that use MX cross-axis mechanical shaft bodies. Razer said that this series is compatible with the BlackWidow V4 series of mechanical keyboards, including BlackWidow V4, V4 Pro, V4 X, V4 75%, V4 Pro 75%, and V4 Tenkeyless HyperSpeed models. It can also be adapted to a large number of other high-keycap mechanical keyboards that use the standard MX cross-axis structure.
Since the volume of the three-dimensional figure is significantly larger than that of ordinary keycaps, Razer recommends installing it at the ESC key position. This will not only make the character the visual focus on the keyboard, but also not significantly change the regular typing and gaming operation area. If two figurine keycaps are installed adjacent to each other, the figurine part will exceed the occupancy range of ordinary keycaps and may interfere with each other, so it is not suitable for continuous installation in a large area.
According to product specifications, the sizes of keycaps for different characters vary. The length is about 19 to 44 mm, the width is about 21 to 29 mm, the height is about 24 to 34 mm, and the weight is about 6.8 to 10.8 grams. Due to the MX cross-axis structure, this series is not compatible with optical axis keyboards or membrane keyboards. You need to confirm the type of axis used in your keyboard before purchasing.
The blind box keycaps launched by Razer essentially combine mechanical keyboard accessories with Sanrio character collections. For ordinary players, you can purchase a single blind box and use your favorite character as a special decoration on the keyboard; for collectors, you can try to collect five standard characters through continuous box opening, and further challenge the chrome-plated hidden version with a lower probability. The series is currently available on the official Razer website, some Razer stores and authorized retailer channels in the United States. The six-box set is officially priced at US$119.94.
