Abstract:
Sony officially releases the new MDR-3R wired headphones. This product uses a USB-C interface design, and its appearance is inspired by the classic MDR-3 headphones that came out with the original Walkman TPS-L2. The Walkman and MDR-3, born in 1979, created a new way to listen to music on the go. Nearly half a century later, against the backdrop of increasingly diversified listening habits of users, wired headphones that require no charging, no pairing, and plug-and-play are once again attracting attention.

MDR-3R continues the original MDR-3's design concept of "allowing users to freely enjoy music indoors and outdoors", retaining the classic appearance while adding modern functions. The new product supports USB-C direct connection, built-in call microphone and in-line control device, improving the convenience of use of contemporary mobile devices. At the same time, Sony also announced that it will simultaneously launch special edition headphones for "Stranger Things" to echo the background of the 1980s Walkman culture and the popular Netflix series "Stranger Things."
In terms of appearance, the MDR-3R strives to reproduce the design style of the original MDR-3. The headphones retain their classic shape and come with iconic blue and orange ear pads, which users can freely change according to their personal preferences. Product packaging and instructions also use original design elements to enhance the retro atmosphere.

The earphones continue to adopt a lightweight open design, which can maintain a comfortable experience even if worn for a long time, continuing the lightweight and easy-to-use characteristics of the original product.
In terms of functionality, the MDR-3R has been upgraded for modern equipment. With the USB-C interface, users can directly connect compatible devices such as smartphones without additional charging, Bluetooth pairing or software updates, and can listen to music and watch videos just by plug-and-play. The headset also provides a call microphone and line control functions to facilitate users' daily operations and voice calls.

In terms of sound quality, Sony stated that the MDR-3R has been redeveloped with reference to the original design specifications and continues to use a 23mm driver unit of the same size as the MDR-3 to restore sound performance close to the original. On the basis of retaining the classic tuning style, the product has also been optimized in detail according to the listening preferences of modern users, emphasizing natural and balanced sound characteristics, so as to better display the charm of the music content itself.
The MDR-3R "Stranger Things" special edition launched simultaneously combines the portable music culture of the Walkman era with the world view of the series. This version is inspired by the iconic headphone image of the character Max in the show and the "Inverted World" setting. It adds exclusive "Stranger Things" logo engraving, red and black ear pads and customized packaging design to further enhance the nostalgic style of the 1980s.

In terms of environmental protection, Sony said that some components of the product are made of recycled plastic and use plastic-free packaging to reduce the impact of the product on the environment.
In terms of price, the standard version of the MDR-3R is now available, with a suggested retail price of US$59.99, CAD$99.99, €59 or £49. The "Stranger Things" special edition is currently available for pre-order, with a suggested retail price of US$79.99, CAD$129.99, €69, or £59.
