According to Bloomberg, the Attorney General of the US state of Alabama said that TikTok has agreed to pay up to $300 million and adopt new user protection measures to resolve the state’s child safety lawsuit against TikTok. The case was scheduled to begin with a jury trial on Monday.

Alabama announced the settlement on Friday, which will prevent a series of state-level lawsuits facing TikTok from going to court for the first time. Just a month ago, Meta agreed to a landmark deal to pay up to $18 billion and implement security improvements to resolve charges against it in nearly every U.S. state.
“Today is a good day for Alabama parents,” Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said in a statement. “Tonight, they can have greater peace of mind knowing that there are now tangible protections in place to protect their children from the harms of social media addiction.”
As of press time, TikTok has not commented on this.
