Abstract:
Recently, Counterpoint, a world-renowned market research organization, released a list of the top 5 smartphone sales models covering 8 core consumer markets. The iPhone 17 series has delivered very impressive market performance in almost all statistical areas.
The top five sales lists in the Chinese market show a pattern of rivalry between Apple and domestic models, followed by the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17, Changxiang 90PM, iPhone 17 Pro and Mate 80, all three of Apple’s high-end flagships are on the list, and two domestically produced headphone models have also firmly maintained their core audience.

As Apple’s home base, the U.S. sales list is almost completely covered by its own products. In the top five list, three Apple products, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 Pro, occupy the top three. Only two seats are left by Samsung’s entry-level models Galaxy A17 and Galaxy A16. The dominance of local brands in the local market is very prominent.
In India, the fastest-growing emerging market in the world, the sales list has the most diverse distribution of grades. The top five are the cost-effective model A6X, iPhone 17, iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy M17, and the hundred-yuan national model Y31, covering the full price range from the entry-level thousand-yuan range to mid-to-high-end flagships.

The sales list in the German market is almost dominated by the iPhone 17 series. The top five are iPhone 17, iPhone 17PM, iPhone 17P, and iPhone 17E. Only the last seat is reserved for Samsung's mid-range model Galaxy A57. Apple's lead in the local high-end mobile phone market is very solid.
The list in the UK market shows that Apple and Samsung flagships are recognized respectively, ranking as iPhone 17, iPhone 17P, Galaxy S25, iPhone 17PM, iPhone 17E. Samsung's high-end flagships already have a fairly stable user group in the UK.
The pattern of the French market is similar to that of the UK. The top five are iPhone 17, iPhone 17PM, iPhone 17P, Galaxy S25, and Galaxy S26. Two generations of Samsung flagships were also shortlisted, taking most of the market share with Apple's high-end products.
As Samsung's local base, the sales list in the Korean market is completely dominated by local brands. The top five are Galaxy S26U, Galaxy S26, iPhone 17, iPhone 17P, and Galaxy A36. Three Samsung models of different grades occupy the majority of the list. Apple's two flagships can only occupy part of the mid-to-high-end share. The home field advantage of local brands is fully reflected.
The dispersion of user choices in the Japanese market is the highest among all statistical regions. The top five sales are iPhone 17, iPhone 17E, Pixel 10a, iPhone 16, and Galaxy A25. Products of different price ranges from Apple, Google, and Samsung all have their own stable audiences.
