Ultraman responds to AI regulation: I believe the industry can develop it safely and will not harm the public

Abstract:

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that he believes that AI companies can develop this technology safely and will not cause significant harm to the general public. "I'm very confident that our company, our industry as a whole, has the ability to do this safely," Altman said in a conversation with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff at the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Ultraman’s statement on AI safety comes at a time when policymakers and others in the industry are debating whether government supervision is needed to prevent AI from getting out of control and escaping human control. Dario Amodei, CEO of OpenAI rival Anthropic, sparked the latest round of debate when he published an article on Saturday raising the risks the technology could pose and suggesting the need to slow down development.

Although OpenAI is working with Anthropic and Google DeepMind to solve security issues, Altman said that AI companies should have the ability to independently and safely improve AI models.

"I'm disappointed that this has been interpreted the way it has been interpreted," he said.
