After a lengthy legal battle, Microsoft has finally completed its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and now it's time to consider its next steps. The regulatory controversy surrounding the deal has centered around the fate of Call of Duty, so what did Xbox chief Phil Spencer have to say after the deal closed?

In the latest episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Spencer reiterated his previous promise that all versions of Call of Duty, even the hypothetical one on Nintendo platforms, would offer the same content. He also made it very clear that this content parity would mean that certain long-standing "deals" that gave PS players early access to betas and some exclusive content may disappear.

"For Call of Duty players on PlayStation, and future Nintendo players, I want you to be 100 percent a part of this community. I don't want you to feel like you're missing out on any content, missing out on any skins, or missing out on any time. That's not our goal.

Our goal is to achieve 100% content equality across all platforms wherever possible. Of course, when I say equal, I mean as much as possible, because obviously some platforms will have differences in resolution and frame rate, depending on performance. But other than that there are no other differences. We don't have any goal with Call of Duty to get you to buy an Xbox console. I want Call of Duty players to feel supported on all platforms.

We were outside some of the skin and time constraints, and even the Modern Warfare 3 beta wasn't on Xbox for the first week. I think it's not good for the community, and it's not good for the game. Whether you're a PlayStation player, a Nintendo player, a PC player, or an Xbox console player, I want you to be 100% a part of Call of Duty. "

Interestingly, Phil skirted around the issue a bit in his answer. He made it very clear that he doesn't want to use Call of Duty to get you to buy an Xbox console, but he didn't mention whether he would use Call of Duty to get you to sign up for Xbox Game Pass. When GamePass can play the latest "Call of Duty" for free on the first day, it will undoubtedly become another trump card of Xbox.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 platforms on November 10.
