The LinkedIn-like job search tool that X has been experimenting with is now online. A beta version of the feature rolled out to verified users in August, but a web version of the tool is now available to everyone on X, with iOS and Android versions expected to follow "soon," according to the company.
The job search function appears to have popped up with openings at a number of tech companies, including those run by Elon Musk. Currently, there are job openings at SpaceX, Tesla and Neuralink, as well as X and Musk’s latest venture, x.ai.
While Musk has promised that "we're going to make sure LinkedIn's X competitor is cool," its current functionality seems to be pretty much in the works. Users can only browse job lists and job descriptions, but need to go to third-party websites to complete applications, even for Company X's own positions. Elsewhere, the company has been testing "job cards" to make it easier to share individual job information across the platform.
But there are signs the company has more ambitious plans for career-oriented features on its "super apps." The company recently updated its privacy policy to note that data related to users' employment history may be collected for "job applications and recommendations." This may hint at some kind of recruitment function of X or other more advanced job search functions.
