SpaceX has quietly launched a new standard Starlink terminal. It is thinner and simpler than the previous version, has a 10% wider field of view, and does not require motor assistance during installation. Instead, it uses a tripod; to determine its direction, just move it. The Starlink support page says the kit is "available by invitation only to a small group of early customers in the United States."

On top of that, SpaceX has increased its weather resistance rating from IP54 to IP67, which means it's completely dustproof and can be submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Starlink's specifications page shows that the new terminal can also operate in wind speeds exceeding 60MPH.

However, SpaceX will continue to sell older brackets for users who want to fix the antenna in one place. Otherwise, its dimensions are roughly the same as the previous Standard Terminal (now called StandardActuated).

Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt broke the news about the new terminal on Friday morning and shared a quick installation video:

The Wi-Fi router has also been redesigned, from being placed upright to being placed on the long side. It also comes with two Ethernet LAN ports for coverage and an Ethernet WAN port to connect to the terminal (the old model did not have an Ethernet port). The communication specifications have also changed, and now it is upgraded to a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 router, while the previous model was a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 device. Thanks to the new standard, the official website claims that it can cover an area of up to 3,200 square feet, compared to the 2,000 square feet of the old router.
