I learned from the Beijing International Mathematics Research Center of Peking University that recently, at the Beijing International Mathematics Research Center, initiated by Academician Tian Gang,Led by Professor Miao Changxing and with Dr. Pang Yixuan and Associate Professor Wei Dongyi as core members, the research team thoroughly studied the work of Wang Hong and Joshua Zahl on the proof of the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture, completed and wrote a detailed verification report, confirming the completeness and correctness of this breakthrough work.

Kakeya's conjecture is one of the core issues in the fields of harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory. Since it was proposed in the early 20th century, it has attracted long-term research by outstanding mathematicians including Davies, Bourgain, Wolff, Terence Tao, etc. In early 2025, Wang Hong and Joshua Zahl published a long paper that completely solved the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture and proved that any Kakeya set in three-dimensional space has full Minkowski and Hausdorff dimensions. The research framework and research methods created and developed in this article not only solve this major problem in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory, but also have a profound impact on solving open problems in different mathematical fields.

In June this year, Wei Dongyi (known as "Wei Shen" among netizens), a mathematics genius who teaches at Peking University, opened a short video account, which quickly attracted huge attention.

The number of fans on his account has exceeded 21 million. The only 4-second self-introduction video he released has even become a "wishing well" for many parents of candidates. The comment area is filled with admiration for his talent and wishes for their children's academic progress.

Wei Dongyi was born in Jinan, Shandong in 1991 and is a native of Dongyang, Zhejiang. His main research fields are partial differential equations, geometric analysis, etc. He has successively won honors such as Outstanding Alumni of the School of Mathematics of Peking University, National Scholarship, and Young Liberal Scholar of Peking University.
