DISCO, a Japanese semiconductor manufacturing equipment company, presented a special semiconductor wafer to Kumamoto Prefecture at the SEMICON Japan International Semiconductor Exhibition in Tokyo. Approximately 300 Kumamon bears are engraved on this 300mm diameter wafer, demonstrating the company's excellent "cutting, grinding and grinding" technology.
The team of 14 employees spent a year completing the project. They paid special attention to the "flush" effect on Kumamon's cheeks, and used the characteristics of the silicon material to successfully make it capable of transmitting only red light.
The company said they have an R&D facility in Masaki Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, and chose to do so because of a special emotional connection to Kumamoto Prefecture and because they support the idea of the local semiconductor industry.
After receiving the gift, Kumamon said: "I am so happy to receive such a great thing!" As semiconductor companies such as TSMC build factories in Kumamoto Prefecture, the area has active semiconductor-related investments. According to previous reports, TSMC's factory in Kumamoto has made significant progress. As of October this year, it has dispatched and recruited more than 1,000 people, and plans to start mass production in 2024.
