The latest news shows that idSoftware is developing the latest version of its dedicated engine - idTech8. The Texas-based studio has created some of the gaming industry's best-known shooter franchises, including Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake, and a new version of its game engine is on the way.
According to the LinkedIn resume of a software engineer at idSoftware, the idTech8 engine is briefly mentioned. After the news was exposed, the engineer modified his resume and changed idTech8 to idTech. Fortunately, the poster Timur222 took a screenshot and saved the evidence.
2020's "Doom: Eternal" is the first game to use the latest version of the idTech engine - idTech7. Before the game was released, idSoftware had already expressed that it was considering upgrading the engine.
In 2021, Xbox President Phil Spencer said that Xbox studios can use idSoftware's game engine in the future.
