Apple is introducing a much-anticipated iPhone and iPad feature to Mac computers with the first developer beta of macOS Tahoe 26.4 released on Monday - a dedicated battery charge limit slider. This new feature allows users to manually adjust the battery’s charging limit, aiming to extend MacBook battery life through more granular management.

Previously, Apple first introduced the option to limit charging to 80% in the iPhone 15 series, and then further upgraded it in iOS 18, allowing users to set specific charging limits between 80% and 100%. Now, macOS system finally has the same battery protection capability.

In macOS Tahoe 26.4, the feature works similarly to iOS. Users can activate and adjust this slider by opening System Settings, going to the Battery section, and clicking the information icon next to the Charging option. In addition to system settings, the latest macOS 26.4 and iOS 26.4 developer betas also support adjusting charging limits through the built-in "Shortcuts" application, providing users with more diverse customization methods.

Apple bringing this charging restriction feature to macOS is seen as a positive move, but its actual effectiveness will depend on individual usage habits. For those users who use their MacBook Pro connected to a power source most of the time, limiting the charging limit can effectively reduce battery consumption; for students or mobile office workers who often take their computers with them, this feature provides a more flexible option to balance battery health and battery life needs.
