Today, E Ink Technology announced that the BMW iX3 Flow Edition equipped with E Ink Prism™ technology will be officially unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. This car has become the first car in the world to introduce E Ink Prism™ and move towards mass production, marking that e-paper car body technology has officially entered a new stage of practical application from concept display.

Currently, E Ink's electrophoretic e-paper technology has been widely used in e-book readers and other products.

The principle is to change the arrangement of millions of microcapsules containing charged particles driven by an electric field, so that the surface presents different visual effects.

When applied to the surface of a car, electrophoretic electronic paper technology can dynamically change the appearance of the car body in a very low energy consumption manner, and only consumes power when switching between screens.

BMW iX3 Flow Edition introduces E Ink electronic paper technology into the appearance of a car for the first time, and embeds E Ink Prism electronic paper into the vehicle hood structure.

Its core design includes eight animation effects, allowing drivers to customize the appearance of the vehicle according to their mood, personality and driving situation.

From the BMW iX Flow released at CES in 2022, to the full-color color-changing capabilities demonstrated by the BMW i Vision Dee in 2023, to the artistic design presented by the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA, this technology has finally ushered in actual car mass production.
