Paramount Pictures and Activision officially announced in September last year that the well-known video game series "Call of Duty" would go out of the gaming field for the first time and land on the Hollywood big screen to create its first film adaptation. There are still several years before the film is officially released, but the film studio has recently gradually released project information through different occasions, outlining the outline of this action blockbuster for players and audiences around the world.

During the "Call of Duty and Culture" panel at the recent Fanatics Fest event in New York, film director and co-writer Peter Berg announced a key detail on the spot: the "Call of Duty" movie will be "officially confirmed" to be set in the series' popular "Modern Warfare" universe. Since the birth of the "Call of Duty" series in 2003, the "Modern Warfare" sub-series has launched six main works, and completed the world view restart in 2019. It is one of the most representative and most popular branches of the entire brand.

According to the current plan, the new game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" will be launched on PC and console platforms in a few months, which means that the movie and the game will echo and link up on the timeline. Before this setting was finalized, outsiders had speculated that the film might choose the background of World War II, or adapt the more "absurd" world view of "Black Ops" as the plot blueprint. However, in the end, the film studio locked the stage of the first film in the "Modern Warfare" universe with the strongest fan base.

Although the specific plot direction of the film has not yet been disclosed, and the producers have not disclosed what storyline the audience will see, but on the premise of positioning it as an action blockbuster, high-intensity battle scenes, explosive explosion scenes and multi-line battlefield narratives will almost certainly be the core selling points of the film. Reports pointed out that the iconic character of the series, John Price, is expected to appear in the movie, and may appear on the screen as the commander of the multinational special operations force "Task Force 141" he leads, fighting alongside John "Soap" MacTavish, Simon "Ghost" Riley and others.

The film is directed by Peter Berg, known for his works such as "Lights of Victory", "Lone Survivor" and "Hancock", and co-wrote the script with Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan has demonstrated a strong realism style and tight dramatic tension in works such as "Fall or Fire", "Yellowstone" and "Sicario". The industry generally expects that the collaboration between the two will bring a more mature genre film quality to the "Call of Duty" movie in terms of plot structure and character creation.

In early publicity for the project, Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison publicly stated that the team will advance the development of the "Call of Duty" movie with the same rigor and "uncompromising standards of excellence" that were used to produce "Top Gun: Maverick." He emphasized that the film must meet the high standards expected by the gaming brand and its huge fan base in order to truly become an "unforgettable movie experience."

Official social media channels later confirmed that the "Call of Duty" movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2028, and the final title has not yet been announced. From the perspective of series positioning and marketing strategy, the film studio does not rule out the possibility of directly using "Modern Warfare" as the title to maximize brand recognition and fan identification.

As the release date approaches and script development and casting progress, more details surrounding the first "Call of Duty" movie are expected to be revealed over the next two years. After the "Modern Warfare" universe was confirmed as the stage for the story, this adaptation has basically locked in a commercial blockbuster route for players and action movie audiences around the world. Whether it can recreate the intense battlefield experience in the game and set a new benchmark for game adaptation in the film industry is becoming a focus of concern for both the industry and fans.
