Amazon has launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K, which does not require an additional power adapter when setting up. It can be powered directly through the USB port of the TV, just like the new entry-level Fire TV Stick launched by Amazon earlier this year. The device is on sale starting today, priced at US$59.99, equipped with the new version of Fire TV OS, and supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth low energy technology.
Amazon also streamlined its Fire TV streaming device product line from five to four models, namely Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Cube. The new Fire TV Stick 4K will replace the previous Select and Plus 4K TV sticks.
Amazon also released a redesigned Fire TV remote control with an asymmetric shape and a clearer button touch. The new remote is compatible with all Amazon Ember TVs, as well as Fire TV streaming devices launched in 2019 and later. It will be sold separately for $14.99, with shipping expected to begin in late October. Amazon also plans to launch an upgraded "Plus" remote early next year with an aluminum body, backlit keys and a "find your remote" feature.
Fire TV software will also receive a number of updates, including the addition of Alexa Plus Hub and the integration of Alexa Plus into the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon said that AI will now refer to real-world background information such as awards and events to better understand complex movie and TV recommendation needs. Amazon Music will also launch a new Fire TV app later this fall, allowing users to request music and podcast recommendations through Alexa Plus.
