Abstract:
AMD recently updated its technical documentation to further confirm that the upcoming Ryzen 10000 series "Olympic Ridge" desktop processors will continue to use and be compatible with the Socket AM5 platform. This also means that the Zen 6 architecture CPU for the consumer market will be available on the desktop without changing the motherboard slot, leaving room for subsequent upgrades for existing AM5 users.
It is worth noting that the AMD document also lists "Medusa1" as a product codename compatible with the AM5 desktop slot. This information may imply that future "Medusa Point" or "Medusa Halo" APUs may also launch desktop versions in socket-type packages. According to the current product rhythm, such products are expected to appear one after another after the Ryzen 10000 series "Olympic Ridge" is launched for the consumer desktop market.
AMD confirmed during the 2026 Taipei International Computer Show that the support cycle of the AM5 platform will extend to 2029. The company launched the AM5 socket in 2022 with the Ryzen 7000 series based on the Zen 4 architecture. At that time, it promised to support at least two generations of processors and planned to extend the platform life cycle to 2027. Since then, AMD has launched the Ryzen 8000 series APU, Ryzen 9000 series processors using Zen 5 architecture, and the latest Ryzen AI 400 series desktop APU products.
Although AMD did not directly name future processor generations or CPU architectures at the time, the AM5 platform's commitment to continue supporting until 2029 clearly pointed to Zen. 6 and its derivatives will be included in the platform ecosystem. Since AMD has not yet announced any desktop Zen 6 products at the 2026 Taipei International Computer Show, there is a high probability that the relevant processors will not be released within this year. AMD is expected to maintain its current product lineup and may preview or officially announce the Zen 6 desktop processor in 2027, while promoting the product to the market that year.
From a timeline perspective, if the Zen 6 desktop product is launched in 2027, it will still be sold and iterated on the AM5 platform for about two years, until 2029. AMD has previously brought the EPYC "Venice" server processor using the Zen 6 architecture, but the desktop "Olympic Ridge" product is still waiting for its official debut.
