Abstract:
Apple recently updated its list of obsolete products. The 2018 Retina MacBook Air, the 13-inch 2018 MacBook Pro equipped with four Thunderbolt 3 interfaces, and the 13-inch 2017 MacBook Pro equipped with two Thunderbolt 3 interfaces have now been officially classified as obsolete products.
These three devices were previously classified as "old products." According to Apple's relevant regulations, a product will be listed as an obsolete product five years after it stops being sold, and will be classified as an obsolete product after seven years. Older products may still be repaired at Apple retail stores and authorized service providers, but only if parts are still available locally; outdated products usually no longer receive repairs or hardware services, and Apple will stop producing related repair parts.
However, Apple provides a special battery maintenance policy for Mac notebooks for up to ten years, starting from the last sale of the product. Therefore, users of the 2017 and 2018 MacBook Pro, as well as the 2018 MacBook Air, will still have the opportunity to obtain battery replacement services in the future, depending on the device model, region and parts availability.
The 2018 MacBook Air is the first model in the MacBook Air product line to feature Touch ID and Retina display. Compared with the previous MacBook Air with a non-Retina screen, it has a higher resolution and more vivid colors. In the same year, Apple also redesigned the MacBook Air, narrowing the screen borders and adopting a thinner and lighter body.
The 2017 MacBook Pro is mainly upgraded to Intel Kaby Lake processor, and other changes are relatively limited. The 2018 updated model supports True Tone display for the first time and is equipped with a third-generation butterfly keyboard.
