Apple may phase out non-touch version of high-end MacBook Pro product line

📅 2026-11-04

Abstract:

According to the latest information disclosed by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is likely to reorganize its high-end MacBook Pro product line around touch-screen models in the future, and the non-touch high-end models currently sold at the same time may eventually withdraw from the market.

Gulman said in the latest issue of the "Power On" newsletter that Apple currently retains the traditional MacBook Pro models equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and mini-LED displays, and has also launched a new touch screen version. However, the new touch model costs $400 more than the corresponding non-touch version. He pointed out that maintaining two parallel product lines for a long time requires investing a lot of resources in R&D, production and marketing. Therefore, from a cost and operational perspective, the two types of products are more likely to be gradually merged in the future. However, he did not say when Apple would stop developing the non-touch MacBook Pro.

Gulman also revealed that Apple plans to launch a new generation of touch screen MacBook Pro in 2027. This batch of products will be equipped with M7 Pro and M7 Max processors, and will add more hardware capabilities for artificial intelligence applications. He has previously said that this chip upgrade is expected to arrive in late 2027.

At the same time, this new design language will also be extended to the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. According to Gurman, Apple plans to launch an M7 version of the model and adopt a lighter body, thinner shell, and narrower display borders to keep its overall design consistent with the already released high-end new MacBook Pro. Gurman revealed plans to redesign the basic MacBook Pro as early as July this year, when he expected the product to be unveiled in the first half of 2027.

Just last week, Apple officially released its first touch-screen MacBook Pro products. These devices continue to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips released in March this year, while undergoing significant appearance and hardware upgrades. The new phone is equipped with an OLED display and Dynamic Island design, adopts a lighter and thinner body structure, and redesigns the heat dissipation system to guide hot air away from the screen, thereby improving heat dissipation performance.

If Gurman’s judgment is accurate, Apple’s future MacBook Pro series may be fully touch-oriented. With the arrival of the new generation of M7 models in 2027, touch screens, high-performance AI hardware and thinner and lighter designs are expected to become the core development direction of the MacBook Pro product line, while traditional non-touch high-end models may gradually withdraw from the stage of history.
