Abstract:
A few months after the release of the M5 Ultra version of Mac Studio, Apple finally began accepting orders for the previously "delayed" 512GB memory configuration, and the price of this configuration is quite astonishing. Apple launched the Mac Studio equipped with M5 Ultra and M5 Max chips in August 2026, but at that time it only mentioned in an almost inconspicuous footnote that another configuration would be launched later - although Apple claimed at the time that the Mac Studio could be configured to 512GB of memory, in fact users could not place an order at all, and it was not really released until now.

Currently, this configuration, known as "possibly the most powerful Mac ever", is open for pre-order, with memory options starting from 96GB and up to 512GB. The basic version of M5 Ultra is equipped with 96GB of memory, 30-core CPU, 64-core GPU and 1TB storage, priced at US$5,499; users can also upgrade to a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU version for an additional US$1,300. In terms of storage, upgrading from 1TB to a maximum of 16TB costs an additional $7,500. It should be noted that only models with 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU can be equipped with 512GB memory.
The price of a separate upgrade to 512GB of memory is $15,500. In other words, when the M5 Ultra model is released in August 2026, the highest configuration price will be US$18,299; now Apple has pushed the price of the most powerful Mac in history to US$29,799. The report pointed out that this configuration may not be sold out as quickly as the iPhone Duo, but if such performance is really needed, users do not have to wait any longer. The first batch of pre-orders for this configuration will be delivered on December 3.
