When his 2020 Intel version of MacBook Air applied for battery and screen repairs, Apple directly replaced it with a 13-inch M5 MacBook Air for free.
This 2020 MacBook Air is not the user’s main device. Because the battery is almost scrapped and the running speed is significantly slower, the user contacted Apple support for repair.
It is worth noting that the 2020 MacBook Air has been marked as an obsolete product on Apple's official website, which means that the company may provide repairs, but parts are subject to inventory availability.
However, the development of the matter was unexpected. After answering the call, Apple's senior consultant told the user "Today is your lucky day" and directly upgraded it to a 13-inch M5 MacBook. Air, configured with 16GB unified memory, 512GB SSD, 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, is priced at $1,299 on Amazon.
As a condition, the user needs to cancel the AppleCare contract of the old machine, and the remaining cost will also be refunded. Before returning the product, the user needs to remove the Find My function, exit iCloud and erase all data.
This is not the first time Apple has made such an operation. Previously, a 2018 MacBook Pro user applied for battery repair, and Apple directly compensated him with a 16-inch M4 Max MacBook Pro worth $4,000; another 2019 Intel MacBook Pro user also switched to the M5 version for free.
