Abstract:
World, the digital identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, announced the launch of the World ID verification suite for banks and financial institutions. This is the first time that the project has launched specialized products for a specific industry, with the goal of helping financial institutions deal with the increasing risks of deep forgery fraud and AI identity impersonation.

World co-founder Alex Bragna officially launched the product at the Money20/20 conference. The new suite integrates World's three existing core services, including World ID application, World ID for Zoom, and World ID for Agents (also known as AgentKit), covering multiple scenarios such as customer authentication, employee business processes, and AI agent operations.
Among them, the World ID application is essentially a digital identity wallet used to store and display various identity credentials of users. World calls these verified information "Proofs", and users can safely share this authentication information between different platforms and services.
World ID for Zoom is specifically designed for video conferencing scenarios and can help call participants confirm that the other party is a real human being, rather than a deep fake image or voice generated by AI. With the rapid development of generative AI, the risk of identity fraud in video conferencing is becoming a new concern for enterprises.
Another product, World ID for Agents, allows users to authorize their identity credentials to AI agents. When the AI assistant performs tasks, accesses third-party platforms, or completes transactions on behalf of the user, it can carry this verified identity information to prove that the agent's actions are indeed authorized.
World also announced that after a limited test started in April this year, World ID for Zoom is now officially open to the public. Tools for Humanity, which is responsible for the development of the World ecosystem, has also joined the Zoom independent software vendor program. In the future, the two parties will further promote the integration of related technologies.
It is worth noting that World has focused its products this time on responding to new fraud threats in the AI era. The company stated that deep forgery technology and AI identity impersonation are putting increasing security pressure on financial institutions, requiring the establishment of new digital trust mechanisms to verify the identities of users and employees.
In terms of ecological cooperation, World announced a list of design partners including OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds and Outtake. These institutions will work with World to explore how relevant technologies can be applied in banking and financial services.
However, World did not disclose whether any bank has officially deployed the product, nor did it announce a specific charging model or commercialization timetable.
As an important basis for product promotion, World cited a forecast by Deloitte that the scale of losses caused by artificial intelligence-driven fraud in the United States may increase from US$12.3 billion in 2023 to US$40 billion in 2027. This trend is causing financial institutions to look for new identity verification and anti-fraud solutions.
World also stated that more than 18 million people around the world have obtained its "Proof of Human (Proof of Human Identity)" certification. This certification system is one of the core infrastructures of the World ecosystem and is designed to prove that users are real humans, not robots or AI systems.
Analysts believe that as AI-generated content and digital identity forgery capabilities continue to increase, the financial industry's demand for trusted identity verification systems is growing rapidly. This time, World has packaged identity authentication technology that was originally biased towards the consumer market into an enterprise-level solution, marking its attempt to transform from encryption and digital identity projects to an enterprise-level security infrastructure provider.
