Framework, known for its repairable laptops and mini PCs, previously caused controversy when it raised the price of the Laptop 13 Pro during pre-orders, after promising to keep the price the same during the pre-order period. Following the price adjustment in July this year, Framework recently announced that it will once again lower the pre-order price of Laptop 13 Pro due to the successful purchase of a batch of LPCAMM2 memory modules at a lower price.
According to Framework’s latest description on its “RAMpocalypse” tracking and update page, the new adjusted price will not be lower than the initially announced pre-order price, but will be lower than the price level after the July price increase, which means that the final price consumers pay is still higher than originally expected, but the increase has narrowed. More importantly, Framework will not only reduce the price of configurations currently open for pre-order, but will also retroactively apply the new price to existing pre-orders and issue partial refunds for orders that have been shipped at the higher price.
But along with the good news, there are also negative changes. Motherboards equipped with Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processors have been sold out and have been out of stock for a long time. Now, although Framework has obtained a new batch of CPU supplies from Intel, the purchase cost of these processors is higher. As a result, Laptop 13 Pro users who choose the Core Ultra X9 version will face higher prices when they are later opened for purchase. In this regard, Framework stated that it will give priority to opening up upgrade quotas for Core Ultra X9 batches to existing pre-order users, and the prices of existing pre-orders that have locked X9 configurations will not be affected.
Framework detailed in the announcement the pre-order update and price processing plan for the cheaper LPCAMM2 supply: For shipped orders, if the user has been charged higher for LPCAMM2 memory, the company will automatically refund the price difference at the new low price; for the 10th batch and previous pre-orders to be shipped, if the memory configuration is set at a high price, the system will automatically adjust to a lower price. At the same time, pre-order users of the 10th batch and earlier that are waiting to be shipped can modify their orders, change the memory configuration to 32 GB or 64 GB LPCAMM2 and enjoy the reduced price, and have priority to upgrade to the Intel Core Ultra X9 processor batch.
