Googlebook update optimizes local AI memory usage, releasing up to 6GB of system memory

📅 2026-11-08

Abstract:

Google has recently begun pushing the November 2026 system update to Googlebook devices. The most concerning change in this update is the significant optimization of the memory usage of the device-side AI function. According to information released by Google, on models such as Acer Googlebook 14, Asus Googlebook 14 and Lenovo Googlebook 15, the new memory management mechanism significantly reduces the usage of system resources by local AI, thereby improving the stability of multi-tasking.

Google said that this improvement is mainly due to the update of the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) driver memory management mechanism. After optimization, the local AI functions on the device will no longer occupy a large amount of system resources for a long time, and the operating system can dynamically reclaim relevant memory space when applications such as the Chrome browser require more memory. According to Google's description on the social platform Reddit, the new mechanism can free up about 3GB to 6GB of system memory. However, in the official help document, Google does not clearly list the specific released capacity data.

The version number of this update is CL3B.260622.286.R2, which has a built-in security patch of November 1, 2026, and has fixed a total of about 30 issues. These include occasional malfunctions of the keyboard and trackpad of 2-in-1 devices, a black screen when playing videos protected by digital rights management on an external monitor, an external USB microphone not working properly, a Zoom crash after turning on background effects, and an interruption in the system update process causing the device to fall into a boot loop.

In addition, HP and Dell devices have received a fix for Bluetooth audio lip sync issues, and the Linux terminal environment has received a number of stability improvements to improve the experience for developers and power users.

It is worth noting that the three Googlebook models that have received this AI memory optimization are all equipped with 16GB of memory. According to the data disclosed by Google, up to 6GB of memory can be released, which means that more than one-third of the system memory resources can be freed up. This will bring a smoother experience for users running multiple applications, browser tabs, and local AI tasks at the same time.

Currently, this version update is being pushed to users in a phased manner. Users can go to "Settings" - "System" - "Software Update" - "System Update" to manually check and install the latest version.
