Abstract:
Prabhjeet Singh, Managing Director of OpenAI India, said that based on
weekly active users, India has become the largest market for ChatGPT in the world, surpassing the United States, which previously ranked first.
Since January this year, ChatGPT’s user base in India has doubled.

In an interview with India's "Economic Times", Singh said that the rapid growth of users reflects that more and more Indian consumers are beginning to use ChatGPT for daily work, study and life. In February this year, OpenAI announced that the weekly active users of ChatGPT in India had exceeded 100 million. At that time, India was still the second largest market after the United States.
In the enterprise market, Singh said that the use of generative AI by Indian customers is moving from early trials and demonstrations to large-scale applications and production environment deployment. OpenAI also plans to continue to increase investment in localization, involving product experience, partners, government and developer ecosystem, and may announce new developments related to India's Unified Payment Interface UPI in the coming weeks.
OpenAI has teamed up with Tata Group to start the construction of local AI infrastructure in India this year, with an initial plan to deploy 100 megawatts of data center capacity, which may be expanded to 1 gigawatt in the future. The company also plans to set up new offices in Mumbai and Bangalore in addition to the existing New Delhi office to further expand its business presence in the Indian market.
