The whistleblower Dingjiao Digital recently stated on Weibo that the main upgrade of the iPhone 18e that can be confirmed so far is a new generation of chips, and there are not many other major changes. The whistleblower had previously correctly predicted that the iPhone 17e would retain the notch screen, although there was other news at the time that the phone might use Smart Island; this may mean that the 18e will not use Smart Island, but the whistleblower did not make this judgment clearly.
Apple has not announced the specifications of the iPhone 18e. For reference, the current iPhone 17e is equipped with the A19 chip. Another Weibo whistleblower, "Digital Chat Station", said at the end of last month that the iPhone 18e may be equipped with an A20 chip, a 6.12-inch OLED screen, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and a single 48-megapixel rear camera; the front camera may also be upgraded, but this is still uncertain.
The rumored A20 is expected to be similar to the A20 Pro used in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, but the number of GPU cores may be one less, continuing the distinction between the standard e-series chips and the Pro chips. Neither the A20 chip nor other hardware details have been confirmed by Apple.
Fixed Focus Digital also said that iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may share part of the manufacturing process, but did not disclose the specific link. Based on current rumors, 18e may be mainly based on processor replacement, and the screen, camera and appearance will generally maintain the current positioning.
Market rumors predict that iPhone 18e will be released in the spring of 2027 together with the standard iPhone 18 and the second-generation iPhone Air. Apple has not yet announced release time, product configurations or pricing.
