Abstract:
NVIDIA released the Game Ready 616.56 graphics card driver a few days ago, claiming to have brought one of the strongest performance improvements in recent years. However, this driver was soon exposed to have serious bugs - some users reported that the display screen flickered after the update.
According to feedback from user @renan_maniero, he discovered the problem after testing on multiple monitors, and multiple users subsequently posted to confirm. After summarizing the information, we found one thing in common: the flickering only occurs in 8-bit color depth mode, and the problem disappears almost immediately after switching to 10-bit mode.
This issue has been reported to NVIDIA officials, and an employee has confirmed that the bug exists. NVIDIA officially stated that it is "testing the repair solution" and is expected to release a new version of the driver or hot fix patch soon.
Affected users can try the following:
• Switch to 10-bit color depth: Open NVIDIA App → System → Monitor → Select 10-bit mode. If successful, 10-bit color depth should be displayed in Windows 10/11 advanced display settings.
• If the monitor does not support 10-bit color depth, you can try lowering the refresh rate (but this may not be effective).
• If none of the above methods work, it is recommended to roll back to the older version of the driver.
It is worth noting that the 616.56 driver performs well in benchmark software such as 3DMark - the performance of some games is improved by as much as 12%. But not all players buy it: the Reddit comment section is filled with complaints that "it's better to fix old games than to introduce new features."
In addition, the driver also introduces optimized support for "Marvel Wolverine" and "Diablo IV: The Hatred Body", as well as RTX 50 series graphics cards' compatibility with "Final Fantasy XIV" DLSS 4. But for ordinary users, a stable daily experience is far more important than running score numbers - before the official fix patch is released, it is recommended that 8-bit display users update cautiously.
