Over 180,000 BYD vehicles recalled due to potential safety hazards

📅 2026-09-18

Abstract:

On September 18, the Quality Development Bureau of the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement. BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulations on the Management of Recall of Defective Automobile Products" and the "Implementation Measures of the Regulations on the Recall Management of Defective Automobile Products".

According to the announcement, BYD Automobile Industry Co., Ltd.’s recall number is S2026M0116V, recalling 58,026 Tang series cars produced between March 28, 2015 and December 21, 2018; May 2018 There are 77,846 new-generation Tang DM series cars produced between the 19th and January 14, 2022; and 7,023 new-generation Tang EV series cars produced between December 27, 2018 and October 25, 2021. BYD Auto Co., Ltd.'s recall number is S2026M0117V, recalling 40,316 Qin series vehicles produced between June 27, 2014 and June 9, 2019.

The announcement disclosed that some vehicles within the scope of this recall had batch-to-batch abnormalities in the material of the brake pedal limit pad due to manufacturing problems. This part may crack and break after long-term use. In extreme cases, it may completely fall off, causing the brake light to stay on when the brake pedal is not depressed, transmitting wrong braking signals to the vehicles behind, posing a safety hazard. Although the brake light does not directly affect the braking function itself, in actual road scenarios, the rear driver may misjudge that the vehicle in front is braking and make unnecessary emergency lane changes or sudden braking operations. The resulting risk of rear-end collision or avoidance accidents cannot be ignored.

This is not the first time BYD has issued a recall. In October 2025, BYD recalled more than 115,000 2015 Tang series and Yuan Pro models due to abnormal active discharge function of the drive motor controller. In November of the same year, it recalled about 90,000 Qin PLUS DM-i models due to power battery pack consistency issues.

According to sales data, in the first half of 2026, BYD Dynasty's cumulative sales reached 713,800 vehicles, of which the Qin series and Tang series are important sales pillars.
