Rumor has it that Apple’s touchscreen MacBook Pro will be significantly lighter due to rearrangement of internal components

📅 2026-10-05

Abstract:

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said that Apple is redesigning the internal structure of the next-generation MacBook Pro by shrinking some components and adjusting the component layout to make the new machine "significantly lighter" and easier to carry. However, the report did not give a specific weight reduction, nor did it explain whether the 14-inch and 16-inch models will use the same solution. Apple has not announced this product yet, and relevant information is still media reports and rumors.

This redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to be equipped with an OLED touch screen. Previous reports on the product also mentioned a thinner body and the possibility of replacing the current screen notch with a smart island; Bloomberg said the new phone may be launched in October or November this year. Neither the above design nor the release date has been officially confirmed by Apple, nor has Apple stated the final product name, processor configuration or weight of the touch screen model.

Weight reduction is especially meaningful for large-size models. Apple currently sells a 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip, which weighs about 2.14 to 2.15 kilograms; for reference, the 15-inch MacBook Air weighs about 1.5 kilograms. Gurman did not disclose the final weight of the new machine, so it is currently impossible to tell how much it can close the gap with the MacBook Air. AppleInsider pointed out that the MacBook Pro has not undergone an obvious appearance change since 2022. Rumors of lightweighting have appeared before, but this time the statement about "significant weight loss" comes from Gurman's latest report.

If the rumors are true, this will be the first time Apple launches a touch-screen MacBook Pro, adding touch functionality while reducing the weight of the machine. However, there is still no official data such as specific size, thickness, screen parameters, weight or price, and the actual extent of changes has yet to be confirmed by Apple when it is released.
