Samsung Galaxy S27 series may return to regular release pace early next year, high-end machine memory upgrades still remain uncertain

Abstract:

Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S27 series may debut earlier than this year’s S26 series. South Korean whistleblower Lanzuk recently said that the main hardware plan of the S27 series is close to being finalized, and Samsung is arranging follow-up production progress. The release time may fall in January next year, or no later than February. However, this is still news that has not been confirmed by Samsung, and there is currently no official release date or conference schedule.

The S24 series was released in mid-January, and the S25 series was also unveiled in late January; the S26 series was postponed to late February this year and went on sale in March. Rumors suggest that the S27 may return to Samsung’s more common release window of January to February in the past. The S26 delay is believed to be related to Samsung's temporary adjustment of its product lineup, but this reason has not been officially confirmed.

Memory configuration is still a variable in the planning. It was previously reported that the standard versions of S27 and S27+ may continue to use LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.x flash memory, while the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra were originally planned to be upgraded to LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0. The latest theory is that as memory costs rise, Samsung is also considering whether to cancel Pro and Ultra upgrades to control overall machine costs. If this adjustment occurs, the final configuration and selling price of high-end models may be affected; currently, both plans are just rumors.

The LPDDR6 standard has been released by JEDEC in 2025. Related reports give a data rate range of about 10.6 to 14.4Gbps per pin, which is higher than the common 8.5Gbps specification of LPDDR5X. The UFS 5.0 solution announced by Samsung this year has a nominal sequential read speed of up to 10.8GB/s and a write speed of up to 9.5GB/s, which is more than double the speed of UFS 4.1 and improves energy efficiency by more than 40%. Samsung plans to start mass production in the fourth quarter of this year, and has not confirmed which mobile phones will be the first to adopt it. These are general indicators of a new generation of memory and storage technology, not confirmed Galaxy S27 specifications.

The processor platform has not yet been finalized. There are also rumors that the S27 Ultra encountered heating problems in the preliminary testing of Qualcomm's next-generation flagship chip, and Samsung may consider returning to the Exynos 2700; Qualcomm has denied that the related chips have overheating problems. There is no reliable conclusion yet on whether Samsung will use different processors in different regions.
