Storage shortage partially improved, Acer predicts PC prices to reverse in the second half of 2027

📅 2026-09-20

Abstract:

Acer Chairman Chen Junsheng said that except for a few specifications of storage and CPU, the shortage of materials for other specifications is easing.

However, affected by the high and volatile prices of components,

it is expected that terminal PC products will continue to rise in price in the fourth quarter of this year, with an average range of 5% to 20%. Prices will not have a chance to reverse until the second half of 2027.

Regarding the supply and demand situation of parts in the PC industry, Chen Junsheng pointed out that the current parts market has entered a "high-end shock and chaos period". It is not a continuous one-way rise, but a situation where some people are quoting high prices and others are eager to ship at low prices.

Chen Junsheng analyzed that the current supply of DDR4 and general DDR5 is actually quite abundant, and the price of DDR4 has even declined. The only parts that are really in short supply are the components required for high-end specifications, such as the LPDDR5X 9600 that matches NVIDIA's latest N1 and N1X. However, the unit price of related models is higher and the contribution to shipment volume is smaller, so the impact on overall PC shipments is limited.

As for the CPU that was previously reported to be out of stock, it is now gradually being alleviated.

He said that there is no shortage now, mainly because there is a shortage of some CPUs that match Microsoft's specific projects, such as Small Core products, and the rest have been solved recently.

Chen Junsheng said bluntly that semiconductor manufacturers continue to release new production capacity, especially mainland Chinese manufacturers are vigorously expanding production, and storage cannot always be in short supply. The current market situation is that new supply continues to come out, "so now there are many people who want to sell to us, but few who want to buy from us."

Looking ahead to the PC market, Chen Junsheng said frankly that rising component prices will be further reflected in terminal selling prices and put pressure on demand. Research institutions predict that global PC shipments may decline by double digits in 2027; however, revenue may not decrease simultaneously, offset by an increase in average selling prices (ASPs).

Regarding PC prices in the terminal market, Chen Junsheng pointed out that the adjustment of selling prices of terminal products will lag behind. It is expected that from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027, terminal products will still have to reflect the cost increase in selling prices.

Chen Junsheng predicts that

PC's ASP peak will appear in mid-2027, and PC prices may fall from their high levels in the second half of 2027. The actual situation still depends on market supply and demand.
