Tesla's latest version of FSD overturned: Misjudgment of glare as camera stains, officially admitted to be a bug

📅 2026-09-22

Abstract:

Tesla’s latest version of FSD (Full Self-Driving) v14.3.9 has a software vulnerability, causing a large number of car owners to receive false positive alerts that “the forward-facing camera is dirty”, even if the windshield and camera lens are completely clean.

This problem occurred after Tesla pushed FSD v14.3.9 earlier this month. Version v14.3.9 introduces a new automatic collision avoidance function, which can autonomously steer, brake or accelerate to avoid collisions in emergency situations.

But at the same time, the new version of the visual encoder has an over-sensitivity problem. The neural network's detection threshold for camera visibility is abnormally raised, misinterpreting normal sunlight glare and conventional optical conditions as lens stains, triggering a screen pop-up warning.

The prompt that the car owner sees on the screen in the car is: "Poor camera visibility is detected and the inside of the windshield needs to be cleaned."

Under normal circumstances, this prompt means that the car owner needs to clean the camera by himself or make an appointment for in-store service. However, since this false alarm was caused by a software problem, cleaning the windshield or going to the store for maintenance could not solve the problem. After some car owners cleaned the windshield at the service center, the warning appeared again on their way home.

The Tesla service team has begun to proactively respond.

A car owner shared a reply from Tesla customer service on the X platform, confirming that these warnings were caused by known software bugs. Tesla’s service department is proactively canceling in-store cleaning appointments for affected owners and sending messages to inform owners that they do not need to come to the store because the alert is due to a known vulnerability.

For car owners who have gone to the store to clean the windshield at their own expense before the bug was widely identified, Tesla recommends contacting customer service directly. The service consultant will provide a refund or credit compensation after the company develops a standardized treatment plan.
