Abstract:
Qualcomm recently launched the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, expanding its flagship product portfolio and empowering the next generation of new mobile experiences. The new product is manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process, and the core frequency can reach up to 5GHz.
According to foreign media reports, Qualcomm is stepping up the development of a new Snapdragon chip code-named "Honu", indicating that it does not intend to slow down. Its model number is SM8A75, which may belong to the seventh-generation Snapdragon 8. The target frequency will be increased to 5.3GHz to 5.4GHz, thus bringing stronger single-core performance. Qualcomm will probably continue to use TSMC's N2P process, with power consumption levels equivalent to the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 series, and the IPC increase is expected to be within 10%.
If this is true, then the next generation Snapdragon 8 is more like a slight optimization improvement based on the sixth generation Snapdragon 8. Due to power consumption and heat generation, it will be difficult for Qualcomm to further increase the frequency without better packaging and heat dissipation solutions. Considering the current prices of flagship SoCs and storage, it is difficult for Android smartphone manufacturers to be very interested in such performance improvements.
Manufacturers such as Xiaomi, vivo, Red Magic, REDMI, OPPO, OnePlus, Motorola, iQOO, and Honor all use the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Extreme Edition and the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition in their flagship products, but currently only the Xiaomi Mi 18 Pro series is on sale.
