On October 4, two Chinese tourists (a man and a woman) disappeared after checking into the Silk Mermaid Island Resort Hotel in Sabah, Malaysia, which attracted a lot of attention.Investigation shows that the male tourist is named Yu Xiaopeng, who is originally from Weihai, Shandong Province, and currently works in Wuhu, Anhui Province; the female tourist is named Fan Qin, a native of Wuhu.The two of them traveled to Malaysia together this time.
According to Yu Xiaopeng’s friend Mr. Zhang, Yu Xiaopeng mentioned on October 3 that he might participate in local activities such as snorkeling, watching the sunset or playing paddleboarding on October 4, but his specific itinerary on the day of the incident was not clear.
At 16:30 local time on October 4, the hotel surveillance footage recorded the two people leaving the hotel in swimsuits. This became the last known whereabouts of the two people. Since then, they have completely lost contact.
The two people originally planned to check out on October 5, but the hotel was unable to contact them for a long time. During the room check on the evening of October 5, an abnormality was discovered. Their luggage was still intact in the hotel room, and the hotel immediately reported the case to the local police.
Yu Xiaopeng's friend Mr. Zhang said that Yu Xiaopeng had the habit of keeping in touch with relatives and friends. At 4 p.m. on October 4, he sent a message to inform his relatives and friends that he had "arrived on the island and arrived at the hotel." However, that night and throughout the day on October 5, his relatives and friends did not receive any more messages from him. He called to prompt him to shut down his phone, and sent messages on various social platforms but there was no response. It was not until he contacted the hotel on October 6 that he learned that the two had lost contact.
Mr. Zhang also mentioned that after discovering that the two were missing, relatives and friends contacted Yu Xiaopeng’s colleagues in Wuhu and went to his dormitory to check the situation. The colleagues found a tablet computer in the room.
Through the positioning function of the tablet, it was found that the last signal of Yu Xiaopeng's mobile phone appeared in the depths of the sea. Of his two Bluetooth headsets, one was located in the urban area and the other stayed at sea. Based on this, the local police arranged for divers to go into the sea to salvage the mobile phone, but as of October 8, it had not been found.
On October 7, the father and sister of the missing female tourist Fan Qin arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia urgently to cooperate with the relevant local departments in the investigation.
