Abstract:

Performance test results for AMD’s entry-level graphics card Radeon RX 9050 have now been released. This graphics card has a lower nominal power consumption, but lags behind the GeForce RTX 5050 in most benchmarks and gaming tests, and its overall performance is about 60% of the Radeon RX 9060 XT.

This test used ASRock AMD Radeon RX 9050 Challenger 8GB. The card is based on the Navi 44 core of the RDNA 4 architecture, but only retains one shader engine. It is equipped with 16 sets of CUs, 1024 stream processors, 32 AI accelerators and 16 third-generation light accelerators. The overall size is exactly half of the RX 9060 XT.

The game frequency of RX 9050 is 1920MHz, and the maximum acceleration frequency is 2600MHz; the maximum operating frequency monitored during the test reached 2701MHz. The graphics card is equipped with 8GB GDDR6 video memory, using 128bit bit width, equivalent frequency is 18GHz, bandwidth is 288GB/s, and has 32MB third-generation AMD Infinity Cache.

The nominal power consumption of the entire board of this card is 92W, which is 68W and 40W lower than RX 9060 XT and RX 9060 respectively. ASRock's non-public version of the graphics card has an actual measured length of about 246mm and a weight of about 647 grams. It adopts a dual-fan dual-slot heat dissipation design and is equipped with an 8-pin auxiliary power supply interface. Video outputs include two DisplayPort 2.1a and an HDMI 2.1b interface.

The 3DMark test shows that the RX 9050's performance in Fire Strike is about 55% to 66% of the RX 9060 XT, lagging behind the RX 7600 by about 32% to 38%, and the gap with the RTX 5050 is about 16% to 27%. In Time Spy, its score is about 59% to 60% of that of RX 9060 XT, and the gap with RX 7600 and RTX 5050 is narrowed to about 20% and 10% respectively.

In the Steel Nomad project, the RX 9050 is about 53% of the RX 9060 XT, while lagging behind the RX 7600 and RTX 5050 by about 14%. In the Speed ​​Way test, its score reached about 65% of the RX 9060 XT, which was only about 7% behind the RX 7600, but still fell behind the RTX 5050 by about 41%. In the Port Royal ray tracing test, the gaps were about 20% and 33% respectively.

The game test uses three resolutions: 4K, 1440p and 1080p. FSR is enabled on the Radeon graphics card and DLSS is enabled on the GeForce graphics card. Frame generation is not enabled for all projects. In "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7", the average frame rate of the RX 9050 is about 48% to 55% of that of the RX 9060 XT, while it lags behind the RX 7600 by about 59% to 107%, and there is also a gap of about 19% to 41% with the RTX 5050.
