Apple develops screen-less health tracker, taking aim at competitors like Whoop

📅 2026-09-23

Abstract:

Apple is developing a screen-less health and fitness tracker similar to the Whoop wrist-worn device. Apple has been exploring this product category for months and is currently developing prototypes, people familiar with the matter said. The project has senior support from the company, but Apple has not yet decided whether to officially launch it.

The project is still in its early stages and is referred to internally as a "technical investigation" within the company. Even if Apple finally decides to launch it, the device might not come out until 2028. An Apple spokesman declined to comment.

Currently, market participants in screen-free fitness bracelets include Garmin, Whoop and Google.

These prototypes feature thin fabric straps with built-in sensor computing modules. Compared with the Apple Watch, which has a display at its core and integrates fitness tracking, apps, notifications and other features, this device has no screen.
