Abstract:
OpenAI launches two shopping functions for ChatGPT, open to users around the world. Users can upload selfies or full-body photos to preview the effect of clothes and accessories on themselves; they can also upload product images or web page screenshots and let ChatGPT try to combine the product into the photo. A new "Try On" button will appear in shopping results.

New features are driven by the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model. OpenAI claims that the model can render more natural lighting and richer textures, more reliably follow image editing instructions, and shorten the time required to generate images. Another new feature, “Collection,” allows users to save products of interest to the in-app database for later viewing; pictures generated by try-ons will also be saved with the collection of products.
ChatGPT can also find matching items based on the style described by the user, or identify and find purchasable clothing based on photos of celebrity outfits uploaded by the user. The move will allow ChatGPT to enter the fashion inspiration and product discovery space dominated by Pinterest and Google in recent years.

OpenAI continues to try to expand ChatGPT’s shopping uses. The previously launched instant checkout function performed poorly, prompting the company to adjust its direction. Other AI shopping services are also facing user acceptance tests. For example, the AI agency startup Instinct recently took the initiative to push product recommendations to users. Some people think this is more like advertising and is too aggressive. It remains to be seen whether ChatGPT can become the first choice for consumers looking for fashion inspiration and products; Google already launched a virtual try-on function last year.
